Lots of learning last week...

So, I started driving again last week.  Little scary, but I'm doing it and I'm enjoying the independence it brings.  Some roads have pavements (narrow side walks) that you can jump up on if you are passing a large car or truck.  But, if there isn't one... you either hold your breath or someone has to back up and let you pass.  Definitely not a place for road rage!

We are starting to look at places to live.  They have a gazillion realtors (estate agents) and no central system to see everything on the market.  You have to contact each agent to see what they have available and then contact them individually if you want to see a place.  Not like back home where you call your realtor, tell him what you're looking for and he picks you up with a list of properties and then drives you around to all of them.  No, not that easy here.  And of course, the street signs are hard to find, they don't have house number (just cute little names) and if you're advertising your house to rent or sell - no sign in the yard, just a sticker in the window (but not required).  It's crazy but I won't say frustrating because we've only just begun and I know that is sure to come later.

I now have 3 traditional roast dinners under my belt, one of my favorite English traditions.  And if I've ever described Sunday roast, you know how sarcastic I'm being.  But, I'm happily participating.  I rarely cook with ground beef anymore, I use ground turkey for most things.  Well, guess what they don't have here?  Yep, ground turkey.  Carol's butcher, John graciously did whatever you have to do, to package me up 6 lbs. of ground turkey breast.  Joy!  I feel my cholesterol dropping already ;o)

Little improvement on the TV front.  I'm getting reruns of this seasons Oprah and I found the Food Network!  Unfortunately, Hulu doesn't work over here because of copyright laws.  My darling husband did surprise me with few episodes of my favorite shows from ITunes. I'm so excited!

Hope you are all doing well... getting ready for Turkey day later this week!

  1. Good to hear you guys are doing well - certainly some culture shock going on but it will wear off in no time... However, you can rest assured that Demi will never hear the end of the fact that he now sells...god forbid...HONDAS..! :)
Miss you guys - be safe and hope the holidays go well...

  2. You know you can get the latest episodes on the TV show's websites. We've watched House episodes that we've missed that way. :)

Curious, did you roast a turkey for thanksgiving over there?

Talk to you on Sat. on Skype.
